Cosmetic Expectations
Every Undefined Destination piece is handmade, one at a time, from natural wood, a few thousand volts of electricity and hand-mixed epoxy. That is what makes each one yours alone, and it also means no two pieces will ever be identical. Here is what to expect, so your piece arrives exactly as wonderful as it should.
Every burn is one of a kind
Fractal (Lichtenberg) burns follow their own path through the wood. Daxton guides where the burn starts, but the lightning decides where it goes. The pattern can't be predicted, repeated or copied from a photo of past work, and that is the point. Define the undefined.
Wood and epoxy color
- Every board has its own grain, color and character, so we can't guarantee an exact match to a previous order or a photo.
- Daxton mixes his pigments by hand. Shades will vary a little from batch to batch, and from what you see on a screen.
- Epoxy can show tiny bubbles, swirls or small changes in texture. They are part of a hand-poured finish.
- Live edges are shaped by the tree, so their curves and bark lines vary from piece to piece.
Natural character
- Open knots, small checks, mineral streaks and other natural marks may appear. We celebrate them rather than hide them.
- Allow up to about 1" of variation across all measurements.
- Solid wood expands and contracts with temperature and humidity. This is natural movement, not a defect.
By piece
- Charcuterie boards are finished food safe with mineral oil and beeswax.
- Challenge coin boards have shallow cut slots. Coins sit propped in them, and fit can vary slightly with coin size and thickness.
- Guitars are built from quality unfinished kits. Daxton burns and pours the body, then assembles the guitar. He doesn't carve bodies, and the hardware and parts come from the kit.
- Wall murals are one-off works, and their burn, color and size are confirmed with you before work begins.
Care and wear
Each piece is protected with a durable epoxy and finish, but micro-scratches can still happen with use, and we can't guarantee a piece won't scratch. Hand wash boards with mild soap, dry them right away and re-oil them now and then. Never put them in the dishwasher or leave them to soak.
Our promise
If something arrives with a defect not described here, let us know within three days of delivery and Daxton will repair it at no cost to you.
